The Cats

Tater

We adopted Tater from Furkids, a great no kill shelter in Atlanta, where cats roam free in rooms and you can go in and bond with a cat. Little did we know when we bonded with Tater that he was a psychopath. He ate anything, including salad with Ranch dressing. He made weird sounds while running the halls, which he did a lot. He also had a ridiculously large fluffy tail, which he curled to touch his head. Tater had the best disposition of any cat we've ever had, and sadly passed away three years ago.

Pros: Sweet, very soft, nerdy
Cons: He stalked me for affection
Other names: Bunny Rabbit, T., Bunnard, The Bun

Maurice

We also adopted Maurice and his brother MonkeyBat from Furkids. Maurice is officially "The Happiest Cat in America".  He even purrs when he eats.  He chases those mice cat toys and springs like a dog and brings them back.  He is skinny and probably weighs all of six pounds, but he is the alpha cat.  He is 100% Tabby, and has little Lynx ears.  Maurice always is in a hurry to go somewhere, even though he is a prisoner in the house.

Pros: Sweet, soft, playful, Spokescat, likes when you do projects
Cons: Alpha male things
Other names: Purrice, Big Mo, Gangster of Love, Lynxsy

Monkey Bat

Originally named Onyx, we changed his name to Kaspar, since he was all black. But it soon became apparent that he walked like a monkey and had a face like a bat.  So he became Monkey Bat.  Our first black cat, and in the running to be the weirdest cat we have ever had.  But he's very sweet, it's just his elevator doesn't always go to the top.  He likes to watch movies at night laying on my husband's legs.  Unfortunately, Maurice knocked out one of his canine teeth in a tussle.

Pros: Blends into shadows easily, will eat anything we give him, likes movies
Cons:  Blends into shadows too easily.  He's always worried about what's happening down the hall.  Is our house haunted?
Other names: Mr. Timbertoes, Monkey Man, The Monk, Bat

Spot

Spot was my studio cat. He saved me during the pandemic, when I had no art shows to look forward to. Spot arrived in my back yard in August, 2020. We fed him, and after a while he kept hanging around. Eventually he allowed me to pet him, and within time started coming into the studio with me. He still stayed outside, we could not bring him into the house because he had FIV. Spot was a great cat, and helped me enjoy going back to work. Unfortunately, he passed away too soon in December, 2022. Spot had a white spot on his chest, hence his name.

Pros: Helped with artwork, loved to relax in the studio.
Cons:  Hunted chipmunks and birds, once chased a chipmunk into my Croc shoe which gave me an unwelcome surprise when I put it on.
Other names: Spottie, Spot Cat

Little Cat

We found Little Cat after a tip on our local town facebook group in January, 2023. She was living on the dock of an industrial building in Tucker. Little Cat was supposed to be my new studio cat, but she did not take well to studio work so we brought her inside the house, where her relationship with Maurice and Monkey Bat is still a work in progress. Little Cat only sleeps in a small cucumber box on our kitchen buffet. We call the buffet Crabcake Island, because she can be a little crabby sometimes.

Pros: Always around to help out in the kitchen.
Cons:  She growls and hisses at everyone, although she likes to be picked up and can be a sweet cat.
Other names: LC, Crabcake, Little Fat (she's a little round)
